Cha Eul-ha is a beta boy with a younger figure skater sister affectionately known as The Next Yuna Kim. Eul-ha, who spends his days like a B-squad player who's more than willing to accept a life of sitting on the bench, is scouted to the curling team. Curling is a winter sport where the objective is to place stones in a target area using broom-like equipment. To form an eligible four-member team for an upcoming curling competition, the unlikely friends Seo In-yong, the skinny one, and Kang San, the fat one, attempt to convince Eul-ha to join. Together, the boys learn to forge their own paths through curling, which has a reputation among peers of being an oddball winter sport.
Rather than simply writing a typical sports novel about overcoming odds, the author wanted to tell an unconventional story around a curling stone. Using the slow, deliberate curling stone as a unique motif, she alludes to life's sudden, unexpected changes and those who persevere against difficulties.
