Voici l’histoire d’un garçon qui explore le sens du mot « beau », murmuré inconsciemment par sa camarade de classe, Kyeong-hi. En partant d’une réflexion positive sur l’apparence, l’histoire suit les subtils changements d’émotions liés à la quête de sens du mot « beau » et exprime de l’empathie pour la parole de l’autre. Le garçon essaie de découvrir la beauté en lui-même et il la trouve tantôt dans l’évaluation des autres, tantôt dans son environnement comme à travers le crépuscule. Lee Myeong-ae réussit à capturer dans ses illustrations chaleureuses les émotions délicates qui émergent avec légèreté dans la vie quotidienne de cette salle de classe.

judgements, or from the surroundings, such as the

sunset. Through the lovely and heartfelt pictures, this

picture book shows the sophisticated emotions

appearing in a glimpse among the ordinary daily life in

the classroom.

같은 반 친구 김경희가 무심결에 중얼거린 ‘예쁘다’는 말의 뜻을 찬찬히 찾아가는 이야기이다. 자기의 모습을 긍정적으로 살피는 것에서부터 출발해 예쁘다는 말의 의미를 따라가는 동안 섬세한 감정 변화와 더불어 상대의 말에 공감하며 말의 진짜 속뜻을 찾아간다. 아이는 자기 안에서 예쁨을 발견하려고 노력하기도 하고, 타인의 평가 속에서 찾아내려고도 하고, 노을처럼 주변에서 발견하기도 한다. 이명애 작가는 교실 안의 평범한 일상에서 살짝살짝 드러나는 섬세한 감정들을 따뜻한 그림에 담았다.
