(English) The Promise of Edelweiss
The Promise of Edelweiss is the first short story collection for children by Hwang Sun-ok, who won the Reading Gate Creative Children’s Story Contest and the New Writer Award in Children's Literature Criticism. Including the title story “The Promise of Edelweiss,” which addresses the pain and wounds of war from the perspective of nature and a boy soldier, the collection contains four stories: “Billy and the Canteen Man,” a story about a young orangutan’s adaptation to a new zoo; “The Great Operation of Sweet Potatoes” about a delightful rivalry between forest animals and an elderly farmer over a field; and “The Big Head,” an onerous survival story of feral cats. The stories will comfort the wounded souls around us.
