Book Intro

Jiwoo, a fourth-grader, has a concern that he can’t share with anyone. His friends see his mother from afar and think she is his “dad” because of her short hair and lack of makeup. And people constantly tell him that he is a “girly” boy. He thinks boys can handle house chores and be attentive to others, too. The judgments of others make him upset and discouraged. 

Meanwhile, his friend Yuelle is about to be excluded from a soccer match simply because she is a girl. She does not back down and suggests a single-round match to Rakyeon. Jiwoo cannot decide if he should side with Rakyeon, whom he’s been hanging out with recently, or Yuelle, who’s been his friend since kindergarten. 

One day, Jiwoo has to be alone in the house. His older brother leaves for a school field trip, and his parents must work a nightshift. He decides to follow his mom and dad. And…

She hopes to become a storyteller telling stories that resonate deeply with children. She debuted in 2008 and won the Mokpo Literary Award in 2009.
