Overview

A picture book that will speak to all children who find it difficult to get up every morning.

Book Intro

Dohyeon's house becomes chaotic every morning. No matter how much his mother yells at him to wake up, he doesn't budge. He doesn't want to get up yet. He wants to go to school without leaving the bed so he can sleep more.

He goes to school against his will, but something's different today. First, his crush, Hyemi, is sitting next to him. Next, he can solve the math questions that he couldn't solve before. The entire class gives him a round of applause. What's going on?

This picture book depicts the minds of children who struggle every morning to wake up.

When children are half asleep, what might they want the most? They want to sleep for a few more minutes. Because it's so hard to open their eyes and get up out of bed, they imagine how wonderful it would be if somebody washes them instead or if they could go to school in bed. The book has captured such big and small hopes that children have about their school life. A day where every wish comes true I Don't Want to Get Up there is a secret behind this. After finishing the book, go back to the first page and read carefully. You'll be able to find hints that suggest this whole story is a fantasy carrying with it sincere hopes. The sweet moments may be fleeting and the sun will rise again, but deep inside, children's wishes will always remain the same.

About the Author

Lee Kyungeun

For both little kids and grownups, waking up can be a challenge. You roll around in bed wishing to sleep a couple more minutes, and before you know it, you've fallen back to sleep. Dreams and picture books are quite alike in that anything is possible in them. I wrote this book hoping that the little friends always have fun, delightful dreams.

Lee studied picture books at the Kkoktu Illustration Institute and wrote and illustrated The Yes Pig.
