- Overview
-
A picture book that teaches cultural diversity by comparing rice, bread, and noodle dishes across Asia.
- Book Intro
-
This non-fiction picture book provides an at-a-glance view of Asia's rice, bread, and noodle dishes. Nasi goreng, biryani, and pilaf have completely different names but are, in fact, all fried rice, just like kimchi fried rice; Vietnam's bahn mi sandwich that has gotten more common in Korea and Turkey's doner kebap are similar to each other; and Uzbekistan and the Philippines each have a dish similar to jjamppong (Chinese-styled spicy noodle with seafood and vegetables) and japchae (stir-fried glass noodles and vegetables). Readers will be able to find many interesting commonalities and differences among Asian dishes.
The book not only offers information, but also guides readers towards having a bigger interest in Asian cuisine through segments such as "Let's Try Cooking" and "Find Your Favorite Noodles."
The Asian dishes and culinary culture presented in this book will help readers naturally learn about the meaning of cultural diversity.
