The Journey of ARITA shares the 16-year story of the ARITA typeface, created by the leading Korean cosmetics brand AMOREPACIFIC and graphic designer Ahn Sang-soo, in collaboration with 15 typographers. Most corporate fonts are finished within a short span of time; it is rare to see a typeface like ARITA which has been worked on for 16 years, with full corporate support from the leading sponsor. Evoking the image of a strong, bold contemporary woman, ARITA has birthed several sub-typefaces such as the Korean fonts ARITA Dotum and ARITA Buri, along with the English typeface ARITA Sans and an accompanying hanja font called ARITA Hukchae. In all, a total of 18 typefaces across three languages have been developed.
This book features never-before-seen information on the origin story behind these typefaces, as well as a dive into the designs, use cases of the fons, and interviews with 14 designers who participated in the work, photographs of the creative process, products featuring the ARITA font, and other information on other publications that deal with the typographies.
The book itself has been printed in the ARITA font, to allow users to get a real feel of the typography. Korean and English texts are available for users who are interested in hangul fonts, and the technical information is presented in easy-to-digest descriptions that allow easy access to both professional typographers as well as casual readers who want to know more about the ARITA font.
