Grandmothers, our Grandmothers
- We remember our Grandmothers, who were forced to be “comfort women” for the Japanese Imperial Army.
'What you remember doesn't go away'
Among the elderly victims of 'comfort women' in the Japanese military, the number of survivors is gradually decreasing.
On certain days, the media often introduce grandmothers, but most of us don't know their lives very well. Or, they just glimpse a short story of a life that went through a difficult time. Can't we meet grandmothers as 'our grandmothers' rather than 'special grandmothers'? How about introducing their dreams and daily lives, not just their painful past? Can't we give peace and comfort even with pictures? Artist Han Sung-won's archive of paintings of the victims of 'Japanese Military Sexual Slavery (known as 'Comfort Women)' began with this mind.
