Overview

A sci-fi mystery novel incorporating the old Silla-era Korean folk song "Changiparanga."

Book Intro

(English) Gipa

This work incorporates science fiction with elements from the old Korean folk song "Changiparanga" to tell a sci-fi mystery story that focuses on the fact that Gipa, a well-known Silla-era warrior, can be deduced to be a doctor or even a monk depending on the interpretation. The setting for the story is a near-future world with cyborgs and androids where a chase takes place in the wreck of a space cruiser destroyed by an unexpected meteorite impact. As the distance closes between Gipa, a hero who has saved lives, and the protagonist, who is trying to rescue Gipa, the truth of the wreck and the reality of the hero gradually emerge.

The work is an entertainment novel with excellent twists, and at the same time, it is also a serious thought experiment that makes readers ponder humanity and inhumanity. The elaborate narrative composition, full of twist after twist, is not only for fun and entertainment. The twists, placed at just the right moments, break down the boundary between the perception of good and evil, and even propose questions about what actually can be considered good or evil.

Recommendation

"The author's attitude of earnestly confronting the truth, without distinction between good and evil, is admirable. Her approach to discovering warmth in the cold truth makes me anticipate the worlds she will create in the future." - Kim Choyeop (Novelist), 2019
