The real world of the criminal psychological analysis of Kwon Il Yong, a living history of profiling in Korea
Major serial murder cases from the 2000s that are vividly depicted through elaborate examination and studies
Those Who Read Evil Minds is a nonfiction story about the experiences of Kwon Il Yong, the ex-police chief superintendent who is the first profiler in Korea. Kwon Il Yong and Ko Namu have cowritten stories about profilers who had pivotal roles in investigating and arresting serial murderers who sent shock waves throughout the nation.
Ex-police chief superintendent Kwon Il Yong started his career when he was recruited to be on a detective task force. He is a self-made man who became the first profiler in Korea at a time when the term “profiling” was unfamiliar to most people. When Korea was a wasteland for criminal psychology analysis, he built the foundation for profiling by thoroughly investigating and delving into criminals’ minds. He also played a role in establishing the criminal behavior analysis team, a profiling team at the National Police Agency.
Those Who Read Evil Minds describes the process of Detective Kwon becoming the first profiler in Korea, the creation of the first profiling team in Korea, and the team’s activities, from providing decisive clues to an investigation to overcoming conventional norms and stereotypes. The book offers a fast-paced depiction of intense mind games between a profiler and a criminal, dramatic scenes in which a profiler makes his/her point against distrust in the field toward unfamiliar investigative techniques, and the agonies of profilers who have to face horrible crimes in their daily lives.
