Overview

This picture book composed of the pixel art makes us reflect upon how our fathers would look were they not called father.

Book Intro

(English) Mr. Tutti and 100 Waterdrops

Uncle elephant is riding a bicycle fast. He is carrying a bucket filled with blue water drops on his head. There are 100 water drops in the bucket. He runs with his hair blowing in the air, without taking his eyes off his destination, but the way home seems so far away. Thinking about the children who would be waiting for him, his mind is kept busy, but his way gets rougher and rougher. When he passes under the scorching sun and through a cave in which ghosts seem to be hiding and he falls down from a cliff, the water drops pop out from the bucket one by one. He is pursued by bees, encounters a dreadful snake, and even has some of the water stolen. But uncle elephant is so kind-hearted that when he meets a group of ants who are in difficult circumstances, he gives them water. As he gets closer to home, fewer water drops remain in the bucket. But he never stops pedaling the bicycle. The name of uncle elephant is Tutti, representing ‘all’ fathers. Depicting what happens to uncle elephant in a merry way, this picture book makes us reflect upon how our fathers would look in places where were they not called father and thank them.

An elephant hanging from a tree, a grazing desert fox, a bat hanging upside down... There are many animals hiding on uncle elephant's way home. The hiding figures, only escaping the eyes of uncle elephant, are easily exposed to view to the readers, enriching the story. Don’t miss the fun of counting the water drops that keep decreasing.

Mr. Tutti and 100 Water Drops is a picture book composed of pixels, a rare case among the recently published picture books. Everything except the elephant and his bicycle in this book is expressed in pixel form. The shape of the pixel that composes those things are various. Small dots, short lines, empty square, and even faces putting on surprised expression and skulls. As the pixels created based on brilliant ideas are accumulated, they build up trees, ants and bees, the giraffe, and refreshingly pouring rain. The pixels of diverse densities, sizes, and shapes are used appropriately in each scene according to each situation.
