One day the writer becomes smitten by succulents, but the pretty and cute succulents that she buys and brings home die one by one. The writer admits she has a black thumb, but her passion to grow succulents will not die. The first time is always difficult and it takes getting used to. The writer does not give up, and she takes readers to the wondrous world of plants and succulents by learning about each one.  Please Look After Succulents is a graphic novel based on the real experiences of the writer as she tries to become a plantswoman growing succulents. In the book, she introduces different types of succulents, how to grow them, and even explanations for difficult botanical terms as well as gardening tips from her own trials and failures. There have been books about pet animals, but this is the first graphic novel about pet plants, especially succulents. They are more than pet plants to the writer, as she considers them a part of her life, and in the book, she shares with readers her philosophy and outlook on life as she struggles to keep her plants alive. Plants including succulents are everywhere, but growing them requires interest, care, and dedication, and after reading this book, readers will never see succulents the same way again, and they might be willing to dive into the diverse and fascinating world of succulents by growing one themselves.

多肉植物を育てることで起こる様々なエピソードを漫画で面白く描いた作品だ。作家が多肉植物を育ててみた経験を土台に植物初心者として体験した多くの試行錯誤とリアルなコツを見ることができ、多肉植物の多様な種と栽培法、不慣れな用語に対する情報も多く収録されている。一般人に少し不慣れかもしれない多肉植物をテーマにした実験精神の高い最初のグラフィックノーブルという点でも意義がある。何より愛玩の領域を越えて伴侶を眺めて接する作家の哲学までも読むことができ、面白さと共に生に関する余韻も残る本だ。この本を通じて多彩で神秘的な多肉植物の世界に入ってみるのもいいだろう。

《다육해줘》는 다육 식물을 반려 식물로 키우면서 벌어지는 다양한 에피소드들을 만화로 재미있게 풀어낸 그래픽 노블이다. 작가 자신이 실제로 다육 식물을 길러 본 경험을 토대로 식물 초보자로서 겪었던 많은 시행착오와 리얼한 팁들을 볼 수 있으며 다육 식물의 다양한 종과 재배법, 생소한 용어들에 대한 정보 습득도 쏠쏠한 책이다. 반려견, 반려묘 등 반려 동물에 관한 책은 다수인 가운데, 일반인들에게 조금 생소할지도 모를 다육 식물을 주제로 한 실험 정신 높은 최초의 그래픽 노블이라는 점에서도 의의가 있다. 무엇보다 애완의 영역을 넘어 반려 생물을 바라보고 대하는 작가의 철학까지도 읽을 수 있어 재미와 더불어 生에 관한 여운도 남는 책이다. 일상에서 자주 접했을지도 모르지만, 관심 부족으로 직접 길러 보겠다는 생각까지는 도달되지 않았다면 이 책을 통해 한 번쯤 다채롭고 신비로운 다육 식물의 세계로 빠져 보는 것도 좋을 것이다.
