(English) The Half Island
A small island that is half covered in garbage, and an environmental message from the island!
Five brothers who drift out to sea arrive at a small island. They find that the island has clean water and air and is abundant with various plants and animals, so they decide to live there. They cut wood to build a house and carelessly throw away garbage.
The small island is soon covered with garbage and turns into a place where living things cannot live any more. It is a symbolic place that represents Earth and warns us of the grave reality of worsening environmental pollution. In each drawing that depicts garbage, photos of garbage taken by the author are composed so as to clearly deliver the theme of this book.
The Half Island is the story of a small, beautiful island which becomes filled with garbage. Five brothers who settle on the island begin building their homes and gradually fill the island with garbage until it is ultimately degraded. It requires a lot of time and effort to restore the little island that gave the brothers a place to rest. The five brothers begin to clean the island in order to save it. Can it return to being a beautiful island?

Lee Sae-Mi
(English) Lee Sae-mi majored in Textiles at university and studied illustration at the Kkoktyillust Academy. She won the 2016 Korean Award for Hans Christian Andersen for her work Dodo Tree. Her illustration works include Good Day, When I Was a Baby and Goodnight. She wrote and illustrated The Half Island.
