Le livre illustré La Lune sur le verger de pommiers représente de manière magnifique et poétique le monde littéraire de l’auteur Kwon Jeong-saeng, qui considère que les êtres les plus modestes sont les plus précieux. Il s’agit du troisième volume de la série Livres illustrés littéraires de Kwon Jeong-saeng publiée par Changbi, qui recrée en livre illustré l’histoire éponyme de La Lune sur le verger de pommiers (1978), un recueil de contes pour enfants. Cette œuvre, décrivant la vie de Pil-jun et de sa mère malade, qui vivent avec bonté sans blâmer personne malgré leur pauvreté, raconte l’espoir et la joie qui brillent comme la lune même au milieu d’une triste réalité. En interprétant à nouveau ce récit mais en mettant l’accent sur la consolation de la mère du protagoniste en tant que mère et femme, les illustrations de l’artiste Yun Mi-suk rendent l’histoire encore plus émouvante.

Пхильчжун работает в яблоневом саду у реки и живёт очень бедно вдвоём со своей мамой, которую все зовут «сумасшедшей старушкой». Она не может как следует пришить оторвавшуюся пуговицу, любит играть в дочки-матери с куклой из подушки, и то говорит сыну, что хочет поесть мяса, то просит его сводить её на рынок. Из-за больной матери Пхильчжун в детстве бросил школу и ходил по домам, прося у людей еды. В 12 лет он стал батраком, однако за всю жизнь так и не смог заработать на дом. Ему уже за сорок, а он всё ещё не женился, и люди вокруг посмеиваются над ним. Но Пхильчжун не жалуется на свою долю и не винит ни чём свою больную мать. Ему достаточно и этого ветхого домишки на окраине, где он живёт вместе с мамой, а большего счастья ему и не надо.

This book depicts through beautiful and lyrical brush strokes the literary world of the late Kwon Jung-saeng, who believed that the humblest beings were the noblest. Presenting Piljun and his mother, who lead lives of goodness without blaming anyone for their illness and poverty, this book speaks about hope and joy that still shine bright, like the moon, even amidst a sorrowful reality. By providing a new interpretation for the tale, with a focus on conveying consolation to the protagonist’s mother as both a mother and a woman, painter Yoon Mi-sook’s illustrations make the story all the more moving. Regarding the book, the Ragazzi Award Jury stated, “we were delighted by the affecting atmosphere of this picture book, which depicts everyday life in a rural community. The mixed-media illustrations show loving gestures, hardship, poverty, disease and care for the elderly. In detailed scenes of the natural landscape and agricultural work, the illustrations show the richness and fragility of life.”

필준이 모자는 강가 과수원지기로 가난하게 살고 있다. 필준이 어머니 안강댁은 ‘얼빠진’ 할머니이다. 떨어진 단추도 제대로 꿰매지 못하고, 베개를 업고서 소꿉놀이를 하는가 하면 고기가 먹고 싶다, 장 구경을 가고 싶다 하며 아들을 졸라 댄다. 안강댁의 외아들 필준이는 병든 어머니 때문에 학교도 그만두고 이 집, 저 집에 밥을 얻어먹으러 다녔다. 열두 살 때부터는 머슴살이를 해 왔지만 여태 집 한 칸 마련할 수 없는 신세이다. 필준이는 마흔이 다 되도록 장가도 못 가고 사람들의 비웃음을 받지만 병든 어머니를 탓하거나 자신의 처지를 원망하지 않는다. 작고 허름한 외딴집에서나마 어머니와 함께 살아가는 것이 더없이 행복하다.
