Overview

This is an amazing book about the adventures of Pitak, the tiny house, featuring illustrations made of elaborate paper crafts.

Book Intro

Can a house leave home?

Crooked windows, crooked chimney, crooked roof... Pitak was a little house on a hill with no two lines that were parallel. And it wasn't just its appearance, either. As the family inside grew in size, Pitak felt twisted up inside. As the days passed, the children became louder, as did their complaints about feeling cramped. Unable to withstand another moment, Pitak got up and left the family behind. Pitak wanted to meet a new family in the city. But the journey was not easy. Pitak had to ford a massive river. When Pitak arrived in the city, no one even gave him a second look. Pitak even ran into bandits in the woods. Using his wits, luckily Pitak was able to escape. Just when Pitak thought he was safe, he found himself set on fire and rolling down a hill. Pitak stumbled upon a large empty house that had been abandoned by a family. When he woke up the next morning, the big house had disappeared. "No, they're my family!" Pitak quickly ran back to the little hill only to find the big house where he once sat. Will Pitak be able to reunite with his family?

This illustrated book breathes life into an inanimate house to tell an intriguing story. Its brisk pace and interesting backdrops allow readers to become fully immersed. Pitak, the house that leaves his family behind, humorously reflects the behavior and psychology of children. "Right foot! Left foot! Sit! Stand! One! Two!" The clever use of wordplay (onomatopoeia and ideophones) in this story adds to the overall fun tone.

A beautiful story captured in paper crafts and photographs.

This book is mostly illustrated through the use of paper crafts. From Pitak, the main character, to backgrounds, animals, and flowers, every element was created in three dimensions with elaborate paper crafts and painted for effect. Clay, cotton, cellophane, fabric, and wire are used creatively throughout to add a touch of vividness to the images. Children will have a blast following Bluebird, Pitak's friend and narrator, and finding small insects hidden in the trees and grass.
