Book Intro

Young Man Gu Unmong Became a Housemaker

* Why was I given this kind of talent?

Unmong was more or less vulnerable, slow, and of many weak spots. When he was asked about his dream, he shielded himself with the title of a law school student at Seoul National University; however, his real dream was becoming an actor. Withstanding hunger, he spent all his youth writing plays, studying dramaturgy, and planning stages in vain only to get the rose of betrayal. Because of his acting senior Woo Chanhee’s fraud, Unmong became impecunious. On the night when he was chasing after the “dine-and-dasher” Woo Chanhee, he came across his fourth big sister Jaeyoung, who he wished had been a stranger, as if by destiny, which became a turning point in his life. He was led to the green gatehouse! The owner of the Green Gate house Do Gangseo, who was also Jaeyoung’s best friend, invited him to become a housemate. In the confusion of the moment, Unmong accepted the invitation on hands and knees, which opened a new day for him. He had grown up watching his mother and sisters suffering in the hell of childcare and housekeeping, which was his only experience of housemaking. Surprisingly enough, Unmong found the talent of housemaking in himself.

*The Birth of the Young Man Housemaker

It was a brave new world. Unmong experienced a sense of fulfillment that he had never felt before as he grew up being overprotected by his mother who had a predilection for her son and nice three older sisters. At his touch, the household goods looked different, and dainty dishes appeared. Although he felt physically tired, he was inundated by the senses of self-satisfaction and gratification about the changes. Moreover, the simple joy that the monotonous jobs brought helped him forget all the painful things. That way, Unmong reached the point of the “9th degree of homemaker,” which he had thought that there was nothing to do.

Not before long, Yeonwoo, who had been taken care of by her grandmother instead of her busy mother, arrived at the green gate. Her grandmother could not take care of her anymore because she had a broken joint thanks to single parenting in her old age. Now he was born again as a complete young man homemaker whose work was composed of the three perfect combinations of housekeeping, supporting, and childcare.

*The Growing Pains of a Thirty-Year-Old

When Unmong fell into the mire of excessive labor and felt depressed, he was hit with reality: “What am I doing here? This is not my life stage!” As Gangseo began looking like a woman, he would become a boy at puberty whose cheeks turned red. When he recalled his mother who was praying that he would become a judge or attorney-at-law in Gangneung, he felt sorry for her and could not sleep. The more he felt sorry, the harder he focused on housekeeping and at the same time sharpened his writing talent.

Meanwhile, he came across Woo Chanhee whom he had been waiting for punishment, and came to know the truth about Yeonoo’s father. Through those pieces of life, Unmong underwent the growing pains that he had passed by in his puberty.
