Brave: Brave has pointy ears, a long nose, and long, soft hair, and he weighs three kilograms.

The hero, Brave, is a dog adored by the family. One day, the older girl in the family comes home with a dog in her arms. He already has a name. Daring! Together, they are Brave and Daring. Brave is upset about a lot of things because of Daring. Why does he howl like a wolf? Why does he pee all over the place? Brave, who is already used to living with people in the house, can’t understand Daring’s behavior.
Dogs come in as many shapes, sizes and personalities as there are people. Brave is no exception. Brave is a dog that hates dogs very much. Daring is too different to form a close relationship. But the father and the older girl, who are humans, aren’t very understanding of Brave’s feelings. They bring home a new family member, thinking Daring will be the best friend for lonely Brave. But it’s tough for Daring, who suddenly has to move to a new home, as well as for Brave, who hates dogs. The book merrily and sensitively portrays this situation without exaggerating, through the eyes of Brave and Daring. Daring gets in trouble and is misunderstood by the father and the older girl, but it is Brave who eventually understands Daring’s feelings.
As Brave and Daring learn to understand and accept each other, they begin to move forward, gazing in the same direction. The process is heartwarming and affectionate. They become mates, a pair, friends that can rely on each other.

Yi Hyeon
(English) Yi Hyeon received the Chun Taeil Literary Award, the Grand Prize in the Changbi Good Children’s Book Manuscript Contest, and the Changwon Children’s Literature Award. Her book, Wanini the Green Lioness was included in the IBBY Honour List, and Yi was nominated for the 2022 Hans Christian Andersen Award as author.
(Japanese) ジャンルや素材を超え、ベストセラーを生み出している韓国の代表的な童話作家。童話『青いライオンのワニニ』、『私は絹の道をゆく』、『ジャジャン麺が伸びますよ』、『ヨンドン洞の秘密」、青少年小説『私たちのスキャンダル』、『ヨンドゥの偶然な現実』、絵本『私は火星探査ロボット・オポチュニティーです』などが著書にある。第13回チョン・テイル文学賞と第10回チャンビ良い児童書大賞、そして第16回大山創作基金を受賞した。
Kuk Minji
(English) Kuk Minji was born in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do in 1992. She enjoys painting pictures. So far, she has illustrated children’s books including Gangnam, CEO and Your Wish Is My Command.
(Japanese) 『江南社長』、『4年2組のキス事件』、『担任の先生はAI』、『すっきりキャンプ』、『あなたの願い、叶えます』, 『しきりに書房』、『今日もヨンメンイ』などの挿絵を描いた。
