(English) Donghwa, Hyehwa

*Yes, it’s a play**

Bouquets of flowers are found here and there inside a grand theater. All of them are for Hyehwa, an unknown actress. The bouquets of flowers cause her to be excluded from the role she wishes to play, and around the same time, someone breaks into her home. This all feels like scenes from a play to Hyehwa. She loses her senses while holding a stage prop in her hand. After a while, she comes to her senses and is overwhelmed by anxiety. Did she attack the invader? Then she gets a call that she’s finally been cast, like a miracle. To participate in the production, she must leave for Busan immediately and go where an international film festival is being held. An opportunity has come in the time of crisis.

*Can it happen to me?**

Donghwa, a novice lawyer at the largest law firm in Korea, feels skeptical about defending bad guys. He’s always dreamed of a fairy tale moment happening to him. One day, he inadvertently steps inside a house where he used to live. He’s overcome by a strange feeling. What’s going on? It crosses his mind that he’s missed something vital when he finds a lawyer from his company comes to meet him. He steps out so as not to encounter the man. He senses that something suspicious is going on and feels like traveling far away with somebody. At that moment, he suddenly finds Hyewha blocking his driveway.

*An unexpected journey begins**

Donghwa and Hyehwa become accidentally entangled with each other. Without a plan, the two leave for Busan in Donghwa’s car. Whether an escape or an adventure, a long journey begins. Ahead is a long, long highway and a savage rainstorm. The intruder who threatened Hyehwa appears as different people depending on the occasion: someone who gets in their way; a ruthless policeman on the highway; an ill-favored criminal at the site where the rainstorm dies down; and a stalker or a suspicious security guard in the venue of the film festival.

*The two at the end of the journey**

The two confirm their feelings toward each other when they finally arrive in Busan after numerous plot twists and turns. However, they end up losing each other. Being alone for the first time in his life, Donghwa reflects on his life, and Hyehwa, who has realized her dream, contemplates the reality of where she’s living. Then after overcoming all adversities, Donghwa and Hyehwa reunite. There is nothing to stop them now. The two run to the beach full of soft sand and the wide endless ocean.

*그래, 이건 연극이야**

대극장 곳곳에서 꽃다발이 발견됐다. 모두 무명 배우 혜화에게 전달된 것이었다. 혜화는 꽃다발 때문에 고대하던 배역에서 제외된다. 그리고 때를 맞춘 듯 혜화의 오피스텔에 누군가 침입한다. 모든 게 공연의 한 장면 같다고 생각하는 혜화. 연극 소품을 손에 쥐고, 곧이어 기억을 잃는다. 이윽고 번쩍 정신을 차린 혜화는 불안감에 휩싸인다. 자신이 침입자를 해친 걸까. 그때 기적과도 같은 캐스팅 소식을 듣는다. 캐스팅에 응하려면 당장 국제영화제가 열리는 부산으로 가야 한다. 전에 없던 위기와 꿈에 그리던 기회가 동시에 찾아온 것이다.

*나에게도 그런 일이 일어날 수 있을까**

국내 최대 로펌 초임 변호사인 동화는 악인을 변호하며 회의에 빠진다. 자신에게도 낭만적인 책 속에서와 같은 순간이 찾아올지 모른다는 희망을 품고 살아왔다. 어느 날, 동화는 실수로 문이 열려 있는 이전 집 현관으로 들어선다. 어쩐지 분위기가 이상하다. 여기에서 무슨 일이? 무언가 중요한 것을 놓쳤다는 기분을 느끼지만 때마침 자신을 찾아온 로펌 대표 변호사를 마주치고 자리를 피한다. 분위기가 심상치 않음을 느끼는 동화. 누군가와 함께 멀리 떠나면 좋겠다고 생각한다. 그리고 예기치 않은 어느 순간 혜화가 동화의 차 앞을 막아선다.

*우연처럼 긴 여정이 시작됐다**

우연히 얽히고설키는 두 사람. 한 차에 올라 무작정 부산으로 향한다. 도망인지 도전인지 모를 긴 여정이 시작된 것이다. 그들 앞에는 기나긴 고속도로와 무자비한 태풍이 기다리고 있다. 혜화를 위협했던 침입자는 때에 따라 각기 다른 모습으로 등장한다. 고속도로에서는 무자비한 경찰이, 태풍이 지나간 자리에서는 꺼림칙한 범죄자가, 부산국제영화제 현장에서는 음흉한 스토커와 의심스러운 경호원이 되어 그들 앞을 가로막는다.

*여정의 끝에 선 두 사람**

우여곡절 끝에 부산에 도착하고 서로를 향한 마음을 확인하지만, 결국 서로를 잃는 두 사람. 난생처음 외따로 놓인 동화는 자신을 돌아보고, 꿈꾸던 미래를 맞이한 혜화는 자신이 처한 현실을 톺아본다. 이윽고 온갖 역경을 이겨내고 다시 만나는 동화와 혜화. 이제 그들 앞을 막아서는 것은 그 무엇도 없다. 두 사람은 부드러운 모래사장과 광활한 바다만이 끝없이 펼쳐진 곳으로 달려간다.
