Overview

The latest book in the bestselling children’s book series, Manbogy’s Rice Cake Shop, which has sold more than 600,000 copies.

Book Intro

"Yangsuny’s Rice Cake Shop is the fourth story in Manbogy’s Rice Cake Shop series, which has sold over 600,000 copies since it was first released in 2010. The latest book is the first volume that begins a new season for the rice cake shop, which had long closed its doors after granting Korangji’s wish.

If Grandma Samsin (the goddess of childbirth) made rice cakes for the children in the first three stories, in the new season, Korangji, who has now become a human, plays that role. Korangji, who goes to school to take the children’s side, carefully observes the children and looks to see if there is a child who needs his help. But in order to grant the wishes of the children, he needs the rice cake with magical powers. Korangji’s yearning to help the children finally awakens the rice cake shop from a long sleep.

The appearance of the basement where the rice cakes are made and the “Book of Recipes,” which shows the process by which they are made, adds another fresh layer of narrative to the pattern of the rice cake shop, which changes its sign according to the main character. The kind-hearted Korangji secretly watches the children eat the rice cakes he worked so hard to make by moving his body to an exciting beat—dum-di-dum, dum-du-du-dum—and fills the craving the children suffer due to a lack with delicious warmth.

Yangsuny clams up whenever she stands in front of another person. Even if she has something she wants to say, the words just go round and round in her head and then disappear. She is intimidated by the slightest response from the other person, worried that she has done something wrong. She has carefully made invitations to invite her friends over on her birthday, but the invitations haven’t been able to leave Yangsuny’s jacket for days. Then one day, Yangsuny discovers the lights on in a shop by the road she walks along and notices that it has a new sign. Attracted by the sign with her name on it, she enters the rice cake shop. Inside, she discovers one rice cake in a basket and a price tag with something strange written on it. What change will happen to Yangsuny as she fills her mouth with the rice cake?"
