When author Bae Myounghoon released his first book Tower in 2009, he was highly praised for showing new potential in Korea’s science fiction literature. The acclaimed rookie has now become a veteran with 15 years of experience, during which time he has developed his career robustly, proving the potential that had been seen in him, and more than living up to expectations.
Every work he released has demonstrated his expansion and growth as an author, always going against people’s expectations. From Tower that criticizes society through the world’s highest tower nation Beanstalk; to Proposal, which contains words of love sent from space; First Breath that depicts a humanist unity of space citizens; and Archaeo-Psychicist that challenges readers to join a dangerous brain game by creating a new study of archaeo-psychic; Bae has never hesitated to set foot in an unexpected direction. And every time he’s done so, he has made spectacular literary advances and successfully expanded the domain of Korea’s science fiction.
In 2020, his sixth novel ROK Space Force was published. Like his other works, what stands out most in this book is a whole new universe constructed with his wildest imagination. In the fictional world where two suns rise, and humankind can move and migrate to Mars, there comes the “Space Force.”
