Overview

A beautiful love story between King Iryeo, who suffers from lunacy, and Eop-bok, who is the only person that can soothe Iryeo with her voice.

Book Intro

Iryeo, the king who becomes a lunatic at night

Iryeo is the king of the Joseon Dynasty, who is notorious for his ferocity. In fact, he suffers from lunacy. When psychologically pressured and stressed, he has headaches and wields violence in a frantic state. After each bloodbath sweeps over the palace, he loses consciousness and cannot remember anything. Because of his illness, many people are killed. His madness is not genetic, but rather caused by someone who is intentionally poisoning the king as part of a ploy. Following his mother’s will, Iryeo tries to find a voice that can help him when he loses his mind to madness.

Young Master Shigang, or Eop-bok, a renowned jeon-gisu

Eop-bok is a jeon-gisu, a professional storyteller who hides her social status and sexuality and makes her living by performing stories. After her father, the chief palace guard, and her brother were killed by the king, she became a storyteller to support herself. Her brilliant stories, excellent acting, and beautiful appearance earn her the stage name Young Master Shigang. From the rage of losing her father and brother, Eop-bok makes up a story titled “Mad Tiger Story” and tells the story everywhere to mock the king.

I got you, my lifesaver!

One night, Eop-bok performs a story to women in a noble family and then climbs over a wall to escape from the house. After jumping off, she doesn’t feel the hard ground but something soft. She landed on a young man! Thinking that a man who is wandering around at 11 o’clock at night is a runaway like her, she hides with him in a shed of a villager’s house. She feels empathy for him and frankly tells him about herself. The man is actually Iryeo, the king of the Joseon Dynasty. He finds out that she is the jeon-gisu that he has been looking for and determines not to let her go.

Every night the moon sets and rises

When Eop-bok refuses to follow him, Iryeo orders the arrest of the jeon-gisu who made him an object of ridicule. Even when tied up, Eop-bok refuses to obey the king, who tells her to be his exclusive storyteller. At that moment, a fire breaks out in the deserted cattle shed, where Eop-bok is tied up, and Iryeo rescues her and takes her to the palace. The king asks her to disguise herself as a shaman and learn the rumors and gossip in the palace. With Eop-bok in the palace, Yeon Gyeong Dang, the royal villa, and Iryeo, who used to live a life of loneliness, gradually come to life.
