One of the things that school parents of elementary schoolchild most concern about is 'How can we make our child study by her/himself?'. Self-directed study, it quite seems to be very simple but actually it is not so easy for schoolchildren to study by themselves. That is why we published the Daily Habits Workbook for elementary upper grades which develops the habits of elementary school children in order to be the first step in self-directed study. 

Daily Habits Workbook for elementary upper grades is composed of two books, one for parents and one for children. Firstly, with parents book, parents learn the importance of habits and theories about the way of using the children book well. Moreover, the book contains the quetions that the writer(Ms. Lee Eun Kyung) has been frequently asked school parents and the answers of that questions. The workbook, which is for children, is made for elementary schoolchild to be able to have habits of studying, reading, writing, one-day vocabulary, living and mind through various of everyday activities. Children might be able to think this book not as 'studying book' but as one of the interesting activities they have to do on that day because they can use this book as a diary or a planner. 

By the activities of planning, doing, cheking the daily study plan, writing good sentences of the book that children read that day, developing creativity and ability of writing by one-sentence writing, memorizing each one word of English and Chinese character, keeping self-promises of arrangement and screen time and promising by myself to have healthy mental, children will naturally have habits and it would be connected to self-directed studying and living. Furthermore, we put rewards for children so that they can feel interests in this book. For upper grades, children can collect points and can receive various and interesting coupons. We contained the coupons in the very back page of the book so that parents do not have to make coupons inconveniently. By daily workbook activities that children do not because their parents make them to but because they like, children would naturally live elementary school life wisely directed by themselves. 

초등학생 자녀를 둔 학부모님들이 가장 많이 고민하는 것 중 하나는 ‘아이를 어떻게 스스로 공부시킬 수 있을까?’가 아닐까 싶습니다. 자기 주도 공부, 말이야 간단하지만 사실상 초등학생 아이들이 알아서 공부하는 게 쉬운 일은 결코 아닙니다. 그래서 자기 주도 공부의 첫걸음이 될 수 있도록 먼저 초등 아이들의 습관을 자리 잡아주는 『초등 매일 습관 익힘책』을 출간하였습니다.

『초등 매일 습관 익힘책』은 학부모용·학생용 총 두 권으로 구성되어 있습니다. 먼저 학부모용에서는 부모님들이 습관의 중요성과 학생용 책을 잘 활용하는 방법에 대한 이론을 익힙니다. 또한, 이은경 선생님이 초등학생 학부모님들로부터 가장 많이 들어 온 질문 위주의 알짜배기 Q&A를 수록했습니다. 실천서인 학생용 책은 초등 아이가 매일 주어지는 다양한 활동을 통해 공부ㆍ독서ㆍ쓰기ㆍ하루 어휘ㆍ생활ㆍ마음 습관을 잡을 수 있도록 만들었습니다. 아이들은 이 책을 다이어리 혹은 플래너처럼 사용할 수 있어서 ‘공부’라는 생각보다는 하루 중 주어지는 하나의 재미난 활동이라고 생각할 수 있을 것입니다.  

그날 어떤 공부를 할지 계획·실천·점검하고, 책을 읽고 좋았던 구절을 적고, 한 줄 글쓰기로 창의성과 글쓰기 실력을 높이고, 영어 단어와 한자 하나씩 외우고, 정리 정돈과 스크린 타임에 대한 스스로와의 약속을 지키고, 건강한 마음을 가지기 위해 나 자신과 약속하는 활동을 통해 아이는 자연스레 습관이 잡히고 이는 결국 자기 주도 공부 및 생활로 이어질 것입니다. 또한, 아이가 흥미를 느낄 수 있도록 책 안에 보상 제도를 만들었습니다. 고학년은 스코어를 일정 정도 모아 다양하고 재미있는 쿠폰을 받을 수 있게 하였습니다. 학생용 책의 가장 뒷장에 쿠폰을 수록하여 학부모님들이 번거롭게 쿠폰을 따로 만들지 않아도 되도록 구성하였습니다. 부모가 시켜서가 아닌 아이가 좋아서 하는 매일 익힘책 활동을 통해 아이는 자연스레 자기 주도로 슬기로운 초등 생활을 할 수 있게 될 것입니다.
