Overview

An Actor under the Stage is a comic book that uses heart-warming words and adorable art to capture the passion and hard work it takes to achieve the dream of becoming an actor.

Book Intro

"Will we be able to make it and put on this play?"
When we are young, full of dreams, we decide to venture out to become actors—only to realize that all this singing, dancing, and acting is beyond us...!

This is a love story for everyone striving to achieve their dream on the stage called life.

This comic book is based on the true story of Yoon Soo-hoon, who once put on plays as an actor. The passion and hard work he put into achieving his dream are reflected in the work through heart-warming prose and adorable art. When it was first posted on Instagram and Naver Best-Challenge Webtoon, it touched many hearts and created a buzz. This book includes stories about six plays: Daedongyeojido, Oh! While You Were Sleeping, Spring Awakening, Our Town, Jesus Christ Superstar, and the graduation play.

Yoon found the dream of becoming a stage actor in high school, and that led him to study musicals in college. But everything was a challenge, and his journey to the stage was a bumpy ride. At times, he struggled with acting because he couldn't get the emotions right, the practice room smelled, stage props broke, and costumes ordered failed to arrive even by the day of the performance. A stagehand stormed out crying after an argument with an actor, and sometimes a stagehand would wind up having to fill in for an actor who had dropped out. You were due on stage any minute but couldn’t remember your lines, while the outfit  you had to change out of was stuck to your body. Putting on a play is quite similar to living life in that you can never predict what's in store for you. What is important is that the moments of your sweat and tears remain as glorious memories even if your dream didn't come true.

In that sense, the author tells us, "You and I may not be on stage, but we are all actors."

About the Author

Yoon Soo Hoon, 尹洙勳

A person somewhere between an actor and a writer. Once an aspiring comic, he thought of adding this title to his introduction, but he was told that giving up that dream was his best decision. He looks self-conscious but actually that is because he values himself too much over others.
