Book Intro

Smelling blood, Eugene wakes up. He always smells blood before an onset of an attack. Because he hadn’t taken his medication for a couple of days, last night he felt invigorated, so he went out to roam the streets again. Now Eugene is lying on the bed, waiting for the attack to begin, but he gets a call from Hagene, who was adopted into the family after the death of Eugene’s older brother. Hagene says he hasn’t been able to get hold of their mother since last night and is wondering if something is wrong. Eugene gets up and sees that there is blood everywhere in the room, and he is also smeared with blood. Following the trail of blood, he walks out of the room and goes down the stairs, and when he gets to the living room, he sees his mother brutally murdered. Sixteen years ago, when Eugene was ten years old, his father and older brother were killed in an accident on a family trip. Several months after that, he was prescribed medication by his psychiatrist aunt, and he was forced to take the medication every day. Eugene was a promising swimmer, and when he was sixteen, he stopped taking the medication to swim in a race. He suffered his first attack in the middle of the race, and although he pleaded with his mother, she put an end to his life as a swimmer. Living under the strict regulations of his mother and the watchful eyes of his aunt, who seems to manipulate him, he is forced to take the medication that enervates him, and the only diversion he gets is to stop taking his medication for a couple of days and to go out secretly at night. However, he has no idea how he came back home last night, or what happened to him and his mother after he got home. As he discovers one clue after another, he begins to realize what took place the night before, and he is forced to recognize the terrible truth as he retraces his steps veiled under blurred memories.
