Raising kids has taught Sim Yun Kyung to feel the “beauty of living a life with a definite end,” as kids grow up so quickly. She sees children's quirks as being affectionate, and she wanted to share these joys with more people, which has inspired her to write children’s stories. She writes of Eun-ji, who knows exactly what she wants, and Ho-chan, who likes Eun-ji but can’t stop teasing her—along with Jung Kyu-tae, who claims to be the smartest, most imaginative child in the world, Kim Ji-soo, a shy quiet girl who likes to study and present before her class, and Lee Min-woo, the tall and handsome boy Eun-ji secretly likes. In Sim’s stories, these children show off their personalities and spin delightful tales. Sim is typically known for her quiet, thoughtful works, but in this book, readers will find much cause for laughter. The Series of Eun-ji & Ho-chan tells of the shenanigans of the two children who have just started school. Whether it be fighting with Mom over school supplies, getting in trouble for picking at food, or doing something foolish at a school talent show—these incidents will be familiar and relatable to all first graders, and they are told in a believable, endearing way. We learn why Eun-ji was kicked out of the house in the middle of the night wearing only her PJs, the secret behind Eun-ji’s “frog bombs,” how Ho-chan came to be the star of the first day of school, and why there was a volcanic explosion at Kyu-tae’s birthday party. We invite you inside the The Series of Eun-ji & Ho-chan!
