- Overview
-
This book uses onomatopoeias to describe the process of how rice ends up at our tables—from planting to growing, ripening, and eating.
- Book Intro
-
Rice gets planted, then it grows, some weeds also grow, it sometimes falls in the wind but is raised up again, becomes gold, then it gets cut, gets threshed, becomes food for the birds and fodder for cattle, and finally becomes rice and comes up on our table. This book shows us the life cycle of rice plants cheerfully. The writer’s wit of playfully arranging words that are neither onomatopoeic nor mimetic and expressing the order of nature is surprising.
