Overview

This is the story of ten plant lovers that cartoonist nancho met.

Book Intro

Like a plant contains stories of ten plant lovers that cartoonist 'nancho' met. These ten people spend a considerable portion of their daily lives with plants. They are different in their occupation, the plants they like, and the number of plants they have. However, they all find emotional comfort when they observe plants and learn about life as they watch plants grow. Also, they all say, “I like plants.” Listening to the stories of the ten plant lovers, readers will realize that the process of taking care of plants is investing time and effort while taking a serene look at one's own life.

Like a plant began with the author's interest in plants. After engaging in diverse dialogue about plants with the ten interviewees, the author says that the relationships that were formed based on plants steadily and calmly grow, although silently, just like sprawling branches. Based on the content of the interviews, the author observed plants more closely and drew them. In addition to the daily lives of the plant lovers, Like a plant includes various plant illustrations by the author. Just looking at the illustrations creates a warm feeling.

The first volume of Like a plant talks about how life with plants is like. 'Saja' began to raise plants as she became to live alone. One day, she sees that the plants are sagging because she wasn't able to take care of the plants due to a busy schedule. She comes to her senses and gives plenty of water to the plants. While she does so, she thinks about her daily life and how she didn't exercise or tidy up her home, using her busy schedule as an excuse. She realizes that 'the process of taking care of plants is like a guideline that informs her of whether she is taking care of her daily life.'

The second volume of Like a plant delivers the stories of people who dream of having their own garden. Plants played an important role in the development of the relationship between Yuno and In in becoming a couple and then married. They begin their marriage life in a house with a small garden. They experience various difficulties because they don't have any experience with farming, but they see that flowers bloom and plants bear fruit when the time comes. In this process, they learn about waiting patiently. They return to city life because of their work, but they hope to have their own garden once again.
