Overview

This book contains Parasite’s scenario and storyboard, an interview with the director, and scenes from the film that won four awards at the Academy Awards in 2020.

Book Intro

The screenplay and storyboard of Parasite, directed by Bong Joonho, have been published as a book. Parasite’s screenplay and storyboard, which have been acclaimed by critics and the public, are even more outstanding since they have been written and illustrated by the director himself. The screenplay alone is interesting enough to read by itself. This book also contains an interview with Bong that offers an opportunity to observe his world of films through a new lens, focusing on the literary genre of a “screenplay,” and on the person Bong Joonho as a writer.”

Bong’s love of cartoons can be seen through his childhood dream of becoming a cartoonist. Bong illustrated a series of satirical cartoons for his college newspaper, and is well known for directly drawing the storyboard instead of requesting it to a professional writer. Through this storyboard, readers can learn how a story that existed only in the mind of director Bong Joonho turned into a drawing on paper to form the framework, and experience what Parasite looked like at the stage immediately before the staff and actors began their work in forming the flesh and body of the film.  This book also directly delivers the director’s memo to the precise details from the position of cameras to movement of characters, providing interest for not only those who study the film but movie fans who expect to enjoy the film in various ways. This book also contains storyboard memos written by the director during the filming process, detailing camera positions to the movement of characters, offering a unique experience to not only to those studying film but also to movie fans wanting to experience the film in a different way.
