Yumi, who is called troublemaker, is always alone at the school she has transferred to. The teacher who disrespects all the students forgets what to say while scolding Yumi. Attracted by Yumi, who courageously points out even to her teacher that she is wrong, Jaejun, who is timid and ordinary, wants to become friends with her. Toffee-nosed Yumi first snorts but hesitantly becomes his friend due to her loneliness. Comforting and supporting each other to get over the pain of breakup, they become good friends of the opposite sex that are better than a couple. But one day, Jaejun died all too soon in a motorcycle accident. What on earth does it mean to take an exam or eat when you have lost your best friend? Unable to accept the death of Jaejun, Yumi is beset by the pain in her heart. Then she receives the journal Jaejun left from Jaejun’s mother.
"I died one day. What does my death mean?"
The first page of the journal terrifies Yumi. But blessedly it is not that Jaejun committed suicide. As Yumi knows, Jaejun is not that kind of a kid. Reading his journal page by page to figure out the cause of his death, Yumi recalls him, not as her ‘boyfriend’ but sheer friend Jaejun, and their irreplaceable friendship, as well as her own wound of breakup and the vain unrequited love she felt for someone. I Died One Day depicts adolescents who encounter a sudden death and parting, through which they grow, with delicate and vivid language.
