In the future world, Jenu, a seventeen-year-old boy, lives communally at a state-run institution where he and other kids are nurtured and educated. When the children reach adolescence, they interview candidates to become their future parents before choosing their own adoptive family. The word Par-Int, also the title of this book, is their slang word for parent’s interview. This “impertinent” novel asks readers, What if you could choose your own parents? A question that leads readers to reflect on today’s parent-child relationship.

Книга начинается с вопроса «А что, если подростки сами смогут выбрать себе родителей?». Главным героем является мальчик Чену, который растет вместе с другими детьми в государственном детском учреждении. В этом учреждении подростки сами проводят интервью с будущими родителями и выбирают их себе. Книга заставляет читателей задуматься об отношениях между родителями и детьми.

主人公ゼヌは国家で設立したNCセンターで成長した、成熟で考え深い17才の少年だ。センターのすべての子供と同様に、自分を養子にするため訪れた予備親を面接して選択する権利を持っている。気になる小説のタイトルである‘ペイント’とは親面接(parent’s interview)をいう子供たちの隠語だ。

Lee Hee-young
(English) The author made a debut as a writer by winning the Rookie of the Year Award of the 1st Kim Seungok Literary Award in 2013. In 2018, she also won the Grand Prize of the first BritG Romantic Thriller Contest with Who Are You and the 12th The Changbi Prize for Young Adult Fiction with Paint. Published works include Summer Summer Vacation, Paint, and Who Are You.
(Japanese) 短編小説『人が住んでいます』で2013年第1回キム・スンオク文学賞新人賞大賞を受賞し、本格的な作品活動を開始。2018年『ペイント』で第12回チャンビ青少年文学賞を受賞し、同年第1回『君は誰だ』でブリッGロマンススリラー公募展大賞を受賞した。その他の著書に長編小説『普通の夕日』などがある。その他、第10回5・18文学賞小説部門、第3回灯台文学賞最優秀賞、KB創作童話祭優秀賞などを受賞し、文学的な能力を認められた。
