A funeral bier is what is used to carry the deceased's body during a funeral. When a person dies, it is said that they ride the bier to the other side. In The Funeral Bier, we follow the traditional funeral rites of a man named Park who is sick and near dying. Death comes to take him on his final path. Park can't believe that he has died at first. He angrily shouts at Death to go away, he tries to talk to his family, but it's no use. It is only when he sees his family sad and hears their laments and sees their funeral preparations when he accepts his death. He watches his family go through the rites. Soon, his sadness and regret disappears and his heart becomes calm. Park says goodbye to the world of the living as he listens to the singing of the pallbearers.

Seon Jaeun
(English) The author was born in 1981, in the city of Seoul. Seon went on to win the first Sallim Literary Award for YA fiction for her work The Night the Panda Cried. Her publications for young readers include The Contractor, Nana on the Red Roof, Alice World, The 2nd Universe, Mom's Recipe, and The Young Girl Ghost Detective. She has also written books for children, including Manito: the Dangerous Game, Game King, Pretty Face for Sale,The Bathroom Ear, Memories of That Day, The Killer Next Door, and The Calendar of Time.
Choi Hyeonmuk
Choi Hyeonmuk (M) was born in Seoul and he studied visual design at a university. He began drawing illustrations for children's book after studying picture books at Hanguk Illustration School (HILLS). He is a member of a picture book group called Mirunamu, and books he has illustrated for include Joseon Secret Stable; Poet Yun Dong-ju Who Loved the Stars; A Tree Lad, Bamsoni; and What is a National Holiday?
