Spring Spring
A cat, named Nabi, goes on a picnic one sunshiny day. She sits on a long wooden bench underneath a beautiful cherry tree in full bloom. “This is the perfect spot,” she says. Nabi takes out the lunch she brought. When you go on a picnic, you have to eat gimbap, and warm barley tea goes well with gimbap. What a long-waited spring, and a picnic! Nabi begins humming.
On a breezy day, a dog, named Aji, goes on a walk to the cherry tree he always goes to carrying a book. But a stranger is already sitting there. ‘Someone is already here,’ he thinks. Nabi moves the basket to make room and peeks at Aji while sipping the barley tea from the lid of the thermos bottle. Aji, whether he knows it or not, is completely lost in his reading while he hums.
Just then, is it a coincidence? Petals fall, and one of which lands on Nabi’s nose. Twitch, twitch. Sniff, sniff! Nabi blows at the petal away with her lower lip stuck out. The petal gently flies away to land on Aji’s nose, of all places. Twitch, twitch. Sniff, sniff! Now Aji blows the petal away. Flutter, flutter. Gently, gently. The playful petal finally lands on Nabi’s gimbap. The two are suddenly embarrassed. What went through their minds in this short time?
Nabi breaks the ice. She asks, “Do you want some gimbap?” Was she sorry to be the only one eating? Aji replies as though waiting for her to ask, “Oh, oh, thank you!” Was he actually hungry?
Oops! Nabi and Aji, who looked like they were each quietly enjoying their own outing, have now started to talk freely with each other. What are they chatting about, using such hand gestures from time to time? Flutter, flutter. Gently, gently. Petals flutter down everywhere. Spring has arrived.
