Overview

Illustrated with fierce yet soft silkscreen paintings, this book sings for pure and true love.

Book Intro

True Love is based on the song “Carp and Steller’s Sea Eagle” by the Korean folk band Jatanpung (which is short for "Scenery of Riding Bicycle"), whose songs, including “Me to You, You to Me,” have gained popularity from all generations. The author Song Bongju is a member of Jatanpung and also a singer-songwriter. He has written warm and poetic lyrics for various songs such as “Me to You, You to Me”, “I Love You That Way”, and “With You Now and Forever.”
This picture book also tells a very emotional story. A carp lives in water, and a Steller’s sea eagle lives on land. These two different species who aren’t likely to be together start to feel love for each other. The carp falls in love seeing the sea eagle flying in the sky, and the sea eagle is attracted by the carp swimming in the water. But they only catch a glance of each other, feeling shy and acting coy.
Love between humans is not different from theirs. We are attracted by those who are different from us. However, we need to take some time before expressing our feelings, and we need to carefully get to know each other. The same applies to making friends.
Thus, this picture book about a carp and a sea eagle is actually a story about us.
