Book Intro

The Rules of Eraser Wrestling

Once again, the kids are busy playing Eraser Wrestling in the classroom. The winner of the game is none other than Sangbo. Even Junhyeok, who is good at everything including studying, is no match for Sangbo when it comes to Eraser Wrestling. This really bothered him. He tried to beat Sangbo, using all kinds of tricks and even making threats, but it wasn’t that easy. Wanting to win no matter what, Sangbo challenged Junhyeok. That day, with victory in sight, Sangbo’s stomach suddenly started to hurt. He broke into a cold sweat and his face turned yellow, then blue. He hung on, unable to say that he had to go to the bathroom, and at a critical moment, brrrrack, he goes in his pants. He may be easy-going and not really the neat type, but now he could end up being teased by the other kids as “poopy pants.” Hongmi, who sits next to Sangbo, initially recoils from the soiled boy, but fortunately, she grows fond of the warmhearted Sangbo, who often helps the other kids and knows how to be considerate. Sangbo lives alone with his dad. His dad gets injured and Sangbo is absent from school for a few days. During that time, Junhyeok uses a massive king eraser to win the erasers from all the other kids. The sight of him so proud holding an eraser was unfairly huge. Like the master of erasers he was, Sangbo wanted to show the kids a great match. The result was naturally Sangbo’s win. But Sangbo can’t shake off the sight of Junhyeok slouching and earnestly asking for his king eraser back. He remembered the rules of Eraser Wrestling, which he learned while having fun with his dad—especially rule number ten. It kept spinning around in his mind. “When you play Eraser Wrestling, your opponent is your friend.” In the end, Sangbo returns the king eraser to Junhyeok, and Junhyeok also recognizes Sangbo’s true heart. The two boys grow close. The kids gather at Sangbo’s house for his birthday party and play Eraser Wrestling again. When the eraser springs up into the air, smiles also blossom on the young faces.
