Overview

This picture book shows the great flow of Korean history through Tripitaka Koreana, the world’s oldest surviving Buddhist texts registered on the UNESCO World Heritage, and captures the historic moments of Korea with beautiful illustrations.

Book Intro

This book personifies Tripitaka Koreana, the world’s oldest surviving Buddhist texts registered on the UNESCO World Heritage, and depicts major scenes of the history of the Goryeo Dynasty in implicative illustrations so that children who are yet to learn history can remember the contexts of the history with the flow of the images. At the end of the book, the overall history social circumstances of the Goryeo Dynasty are manifestly summarized, and the production course of Tripitaka Koreana and the structure of the Janggyeong Panjeon, the depository for the wooden blocks, are described. With this, the readers can have a glimpse of the excellent science technology of the ancient Korean people, which is the secret behind the incredible feat of preserving the Tripitaka Koreana in perfect condition.

The author hopes that this book could give readers an opportunity to learn about the Tripitaka Koreana, a precious Korean cultural heritage, and understand the great flow of the Korean history.
