Overview

This original illustrated book allows young readers to better understand the Korean traditional textile known as mosi and learn more about the value of traditional culture.

Book Intro

Soojung and Yoonmi end up fighting over several lines of a hip-hop verse they're working on together. Soojung, who lives in Hansan, the region famous for its mosi, is about to enter a talent competition with Yoonmi and Seoyoung, her best friends since childhood. Yoonmi wants to write a song about her dedicated, loving mother, but Soojung doesn't want to write about moms. Soojung's grandmother, a mosi master, tells her the story behind the burns on her mother's arm. What secrets lie behind the scars? Can Soojung make it to the competition?

Soojung's mother wants to learn how to make mosi, and inherit the practice from her own mother. Soojung is not happy about her mother taking on this work instead of looking after her. Bus as she realizes that her mother is pursuing her dream to become a mosi master, just as Soojung herself is pursuing her dream to become a recording artist, she supports her mother's work and becomes much more understanding. Our traditional values are brought to light only when we remember them. Through this book, readers can better remember and honor their heritage so that our culture can truly shine.

(English) Painting for children's books is one of the things that makes me most happy. In this book, I wanted to talk about the excitement I feel when meeting new people. The girl who looked at the white bear leaving happily probably thought of the excitement of the first meeting and another excitement to meet again. For the next book, I am contemplating what other stories to make and what pictures to draw. I've illustrated many books including Meeting, Joyful Writing, Squeezing Toothpaste, Where Are You O Ghost Whale?, and Mr. Bom Bom Who Has Eaten the Rainbow.
