Transparent and shining poems carved from secret experiences evoke deep sympathy and leave a calm impression.

Book Intro

In what position is sorrow born?
Park Yeonjun’s poems drawn from her life experiences shine through lucidly.

Venus Pudica is the third poetry collection by Park Yeonjun, who made her debut when she won the 2014 Joongang New Writer Award and has been active along with other young Korean poets. According to the interpretation of Jo Jaeryong, "the esthetics of cheerful and lively eroticism emanate from her clandestine and sophisticated language" along with her life experiences and "a sensitivity to shame" expressed in a creative poetic voice that fights against social oppression and prejudices arouse deep sympathy and leave behind a tranquil impression. The title of the collection, “Venus Pudica,” is a term used to describe a classic figural pose of Venus, with one hand covering the breasts and another the genitals. The poet’s question on the position in which sorrow is born is reflected in the serial poems of Venus Pudica. In the first poem in the collection, Park explains what led her to write poems.
