Overview

This book introduces children to extinct animals, endangered animals, and animals in need of our attention, and teaches them that it's not only "me" but "you" and that "my" attention and friendship can give "you" great strength.

Book Intro

A book that children read with eyes, tell with their mouth, and play with by using their hands

Kiss Me is a kissing activity book. On each page, an aminal says hello to readers and tells them its story. Every animal has its own place to live, its own preferences, and its own appearance, and asks children to do one thing: Listen to what the animals say. Readers can then fold a page with a drawing of a child's face to touch the face of the animals to kiss them. Making a promise with the animals by kissing them, children will create a warmer world.

By seeing extinct animals, endangered animals, and animals in need of our attention, we learn that there is not only "me" but also "you".

A book that shows that "my" attention can give "you" great strength

A Tyrannosaurus, a dodo bird, a quagga, a rhinoceros, a copper-winged bat, an otter, an Asiatic black bear, an elk, a dog, and a cat...In this book, there are ten kinds of animals. Some of them naturally disappeared because of nature, like the Tyrannosaurus, but the majority of animals are extinct or are in danger because of indiscriminate development or capture by humans. While connecting with the animals in this book, children will learn how to live with animals and how to communicate with and empathize with them. Moreover, they will realize that there is not only "me" but "you" and "my" friendship and care can give "you" great strength, and that "I" am a creature that can share love with others.

Listen to my story, please do me a favor!

I promise, kiss "smooch"

Kiss Me is composed of episodes that each begins with "hello" and ends with "please kiss me" and "smooch", which gives the book a certain rhythm. Soft watercolor illustrations express emotional warmth. A naughty Tyrannosaurus, a curious dodo bird, a baby rhinoceros that wants to have a big, wonderful horn like its mom's, and a dog that likes soft touches are just like children, while a copper-winged bat that wants children to discover its other aspects without prejudice embodies what children are like. Flippling through the pages, children will develop an ability to view the world from different points of view.

About the Author

Nam Yoon-Leaf

(English) Author Nam Yoon-Leaf has loved buses since she was young. When the author sees the expressions and eyes of the people on the bus, she wonders how their day was. Sitting by folks who sometimes doze off, Nam imagines each of their stories. We accompany the author as she doesn’t just pass by the passengers, but rather watches them with warmth and smiles as she goes home. The author’s first book, Bus, was selected by American Illustration 37 and was awarded distinguished merit at the 3X3 Picture Book Show in 2018. What could be called a sequel, On the Bus was chosen to be part of the 2018 exhibition “Un-Printed Idea” at the Hyundai Museum of Kids’ Books and Art, where it was praised by museum attendees.
