The Day I Said Goodbye to My Smartphone reminds readers that there are values that are more important than the quick and easy pleasures provided by smartphones, and that moderation is required to safeguard those values. Instead of simply discussing the problems of smartphones, it leads readers to think about why they should be careful not to spend too much time on smartphones and instead use moderation. In so doing, it helps them form good habits on their own.
