Overview

This book discusses how musicians' fashion and styles shown in movies, especially movies on music, are textbooks of styling.

Book Intro

This book is the third series on "fashion and movie," the first two being Fashion, Design Film and Fashion, Styling Film. While the first and second books describe how cinema costumes display storylines and the emotional changes of characters in diverse movies that transcend nationality and time, this book mainly focuses on music films which are particularly loved by Korean audiences.
The author classifies music films into four categories: rock, hiphop, and band; pop and jazz; classical; and musical. Among the many music films, she selected movies that show styles that have influenced pop culture and the fashion scene. This book not only introduces the styles of characters in movies but also tells behind-the-scene stories about the costume directors who created the costumes and their costumes and related fashion history. It goes without saying that the book describes stories about music that are essential to the music films.
We remember main characters of movies by their style: Freddie Mercury's jump suit, the green-and-yellow dress of Mia in Lala Land, the Beatles' moptop hair and collarless suits, and the red dress of Satine in Moulin Rouge. Fashion in movies implies the stories and emotions of the characters and helps audiences visualize and remember the movies. Since the 20th century, fashion items such as trench coats, rider jackets, blue jeans, and the black simple dress introduced through various movies have created popular trends in fashion. In the late 20th century, musicians' fashion had a great influence on trends. The musician Freddie Mercury made leather accessories, arm rings, hats, and studded belts popular fashion items in the 1980s. The Beatles, the icon of youth culture of their time, created Beatlemania and made their fans go crazy over their mod look.
Fashion Sings Music Films provides readers with a glimpse of fashion in movies as textbooks of styles, particularly musicians' fashion in music films. This will give readers an opportunity to know how music, fashion, and movies, which are the three axes of pop culture, create synergy with one another and how they are fused into pop culture.
