Book Intro

The characters and narrative are different, but this is a collection of stories that combine the two episodes that resonate with each other and share the same theme and sense of the time. This book explores the new meaning of "revolution"in the daily lives of individuals by looking at the social upheaval of the 2014 Sewol ferry disaster and the 2016-2017 candlelight revolution.  Deep reflection on life and death and love and humans and beautiful and impressive sentences deliver a great resonance to readers.

After "dd''s death, "d" ("dodo" in the first story of two episodes), whose days felt like death, sinks into the hard labor of carrying boxes at the Sewoon Shopping Street in Cheonggyecheon. But he steps forward into the world little by little after meeting "Yeoso-nyeo," whose has been repairing sound equipment for decades on the street. Yeoso-nyeo also reflects on herself and the world around her on the background of the shopping mall that represents a turbulent modern history.

After witnessing the tragedy of the Sewol ferry on April 16 2014, when the two were planning to throw a birthday party for Seo Sookyung, they started to go out to the square to protest. One of the special moments in this series is the scene where the pace of "I" and Seo Sookyung starts to overlap with that of "d." For example, on April 16, 2015, the first anniversary of the disaster, the crossroads at Sejong Daero boulevard become a "space between two long walls," with everyone on both sides shouting the same slogan.

"I," who has experienced many incidents both directly and indirectly, including Yonsei University in 1996, Myung-bak Fortress in 2008, Yongsan in 2009, the scenes of mourning and anger following 2014, and millions of candles in the winter of 2016, now watch the constitutional court give a verdict on March 10, 2017 with Seo Sookyung, his brother, and nephew, and spend quiet afternoon alone where they all fell asleep. The current time is the early afternoon of that day, but the narrator's story involves various scenes and characters, including Nietzsche and 19th-century Europe.
