Overview

A conveneinece store owners collection of essays, including close observations of customers and life

Book Intro

An owner of a convenience store in his 6th year shares his everyday observations of life and people on the other side of the counter. What started out as scribbles and notes on the back of receipts, on the corner of boxes, and his cell phone, during his 14-hour days at the store are ultimately what made the author the world’s first “convenience store writer.”

Episodes about all types of customers from the favorites to the black-listed will have readers sympathizing and laughing, thanks to the writer’s endearing wit and utter inability to mind his own business. But what also await readers are behind-the-scenes secrets of a convenience store (comparison of purchase and retail prices of major items, the secret of the buy-one-get-one-free gimmick, rules of product display that lure customers in, and the highest selling products for each day of the week).

Would you like to hop

over to the other side of the counter?

You may frequently visit the convenience store, but you probably don’t remember much about the person on the other side of the counter. You hold out your mobile carrier-affiliated discount card and your credit card, but do you recall the face of the person you gave it to? That’s just about all we expect from a trip to the convenience store. No muss, no fuss. Imagine how awkward it would be if a sales person approached you every time you rushed in for a breakfast bar or a female hygiene product. However, meet the author, a convenience store owner whose hobby include observing customers and giving them nicknames. He has 14-hour standing work days, but he also finds time to read and write. Are you intrigued yet?.

In all honesty, our publishing firm hurriedly signed on with the author as soon as we got through his manuscript. The writer effortlessly transports the reader to the other side of the counter, and standing there, you cannot help but understand the plights of someone who deals with hundreds of customers each day, and also catch an unexpectedly clear glimpse of the rushed pace of our daily lives.

About the Author

Bong Dalho

A convenience store owner in his 6th year, working 14 hours from 6 AM to 8 PM every day.  Sans alarm, he gets out of bed at 5 AM and head to the store, and has all his meals there. He specializes in telling bad jokes to his employees, and his hobbies include thinking up nicknames in his head for regular customers. He is often scolded by Jung-wook for losing track of time while writing in the back corner of the store. Never giving up on his writing, he finally becomes a “convenience store writer.”
