Overview

This book is a story about a family collecting “gifts” to present the “world” to a soon-to-be born child. It shows what kind of meaning this world we live in today has through comical and stylish drawings.

Book Intro

Mother is now pregnant. Father, brother, the heroine and their cat, Gguggu, decide to prepare for a gift for the baby. Their plan is to build a bed for the baby decorated with camellias, adonises, daffodils, canola flowers, hydrangeas and many other flowers. However, camellias only bloom in winter, and canola only blooms in spring, while hydrangeas can only be found during the summer. If they want to collect flowers that bloom in different seasons of the year, they must hurry. Swimming in the waves of canola and playing with flamingos that resemble palm trees may cause delays, preventing them from collecting the flowers in time. The bed for the baby, decorated with flowers, symbolizes the world, with the various flowers representing times and places. In the end, the family is embarking on a journey to prepare “the world” as a gift for the baby. Things in the world seem to be independent from one another, but at a closer look, together they form a well-balanced harmony, like something meticulously designed. Like the baby in this story, we are born into this world with a gift, a flower basket full of these individual things.
The reason we feel good receiving a gift is because it delivers the emotions of the person who prepared it. The way the father, brother, the heroine and their cat, Gguggu, travel around to collect gifts for the baby is full of fun and joy. They share a conversation with a daffodil, which shines brightly during dark nights; they swim in the sea, where sea plants dance and wave; they roll around a buckwheat field and they create harmony with everything they encounter. The stories these scenes tell show how much the family wants the baby to be able to feel and enjoy the world and live in harmony. As such, our daily lives naturally become part of the gift that we present to the next generation.
Finally, the baby is born, and on the new flower-adorned bed, the baby falls asleep peacefully. The family is grateful for this baby that has come to them. It is because the family has been gifted with a baby, just as the baby was gifted with a bed.
