Overview

This book helps readers study numbers and then think beyond them.

Book Intro

In Months and Numbers, readers will encounter numbers 1 to 12. From the title alone, it appears to be just another book for studying numbers. But inside, you'll find numbers that look different from the ones you already know. They may look familiar at first glance, but if you look closely, you'll see that some numbers contain clouds, flowers or rain. The author uses numbers to explore the twelve months of the year. Changing landscapes and seasons as time passes (from January, February, March to April and so on) are depicted with geometric yet simple drawings. In addition, the warm and rhythmical writing expresses our minds' subtle changes that we go through in a year. Months and Numbers seems to speak to you in a quiet voice, and you'll soon feel as if you've arrived at an unknown star in the silent universe.

As children learn numbers, the way they see the world becomes more sophisticated. Instead of saying many and few, they can count one, two, three. Instead of simply thinking of time in terms of long and short, they realize one hour is sixty minutes long and there are 24 hours in a day. Things that were vague before become clearer and more concrete. Numbers provide a new language with which to read the world. However, must all numbers take the same form? Couldn't they be cool drawings or symbols with special meanings?

Months and Numbers helps readers study numbers, and then think beyond them. Parents and children can explore multiple meanings contained in numbers together. In the process, children will gain a wonderful new friend called numbers.
