Overview

This is a wacky coming-of-age story about a group of fifteen-year-old students and their travels.

Book Intro

This book received an award at the 1st Annual World Youth Literature Awards in 2007 for its engaging, exhilarating story and ability to weave humanity into its period narrative. The story begins in the summer of 1986 at a village near Suwon.

Jun-ho, the main character, is asked for a special favor by his friend Kyu-hwan. Kyu-hwan asks Jun-ho to deliver a passport and travel expenses to his brother, a legendary figure in the student protests, so that he could escape abroad. They decide to meet at Imja Island in Sinan County. Jun-ho expected to be traveling alone, but he is soon joined by his uninvited neighborhood friends Seung-ju and Jeong-a. As if his plan couldn't get any worse, he is joined by an unknown elderly man and a Dobermann named Roosevelt.

The story of these five companions is told in first-person through Jun-ho, unfolding much like a comedic road movie.

The three teenagers leap head-first on a tumultuous journey into a strange world and learn a secret of life through all kinds of twists and turns. This book will provide a much-needed new perspective to today's teenagers.
