How to Think Flexibly
How to Think Flexibly is all about creativity; in these pages, author Han Myeongsoo discusses the critical role of creative thinking in both daily life and corporate culture, providing much-needed food for thought to help readers grow their creativity.
This book guides readers through four steps to enhancing creativity: breaking through preconceived notions (Part 1), discerning a given object’s style and content (Part 2), studying the essence of things (Part 3), and awakening the creativity that all people are born with (Part 4). The book begins with the encouragement that creativity is not the “ability to think of novel ideas,” but the “ability to draw something out of oneself and make something new into reality.”
How to Think Flexibly’s strengths are threefold: first, its writer has worked for nine companies over the course of twenty-five years, never losing sight of his personal policies and perspectives. In other words, Han is at heart just another officer worker easily fed up with tired old corporate structures. Second, the book is worded more like a friendly talk than a lecture, gently prodding readers to find their true potential rather than screaming at them. Third, Han writes about the things that readers want to know, providing clear examples.
Instead of labeling this work a “self-help book,” Han describes it as “the kind of book I want employees to read, setting an example for the managers, and vice-versa too.” “A groundbreaking kind of work packed with insight for people who want to perform better,” and even “a book that anyone can read to spice up their life.” A work that Han wouldn’t mind had pages torn out to read, read out or order, or even doodled on; the kind of book that people can recommend with ease to their friends and colleagues.
