The Mayfly Meets Tomorrow
Waking from a beautiful flowerbed, the mayfly remarks to the bird that it would be wonderful if they could begin each morning the same way. Perplexed, the bird replies: “Will you not be here tomorrow?” “Tomorrow.” A word completely alien to the mayfly rouses a desire for an adventure within. It is said that tomorrow is the grass growing inches at a time to become a blooming tree and the withered flower on the windowsill to blossom again. But for the senile, tomorrow is the fear of death, and for the goldfish trapped in the fishbowl, it is no different from today. As the journey continues, the mayfly gathers more responses from the sea, a girl, and a caterpillar before reaching the snow-tipped hilltops. Will the mayfly understand “tomorrow” before it creeps up on it? The mayfly’s journey encourages the reader to reflect on the significance of tomorrow in our lives.

Na Hyunjung
(English) Due to my fondness for reading and writing I graduated with a degree in Korean literature, and enthralled by the harmonization of text and image in the world of illustrations I began to draw. While working as an illustrator I have been drawing personal pieces on the themes of humans and the environment, relationships and memory. It seems that on the other side of those sparkling brightly, a desolate something holds its ground. Light and night, to meet and to depart, the different pairs that exist, I wished to draw an illustration of them embracing one another.
