(English) With the Moon and the Dream
The award-winning book in the 2nd Sakyejul picture book competition.
The way to deal with fear is fresh. It never deletes or fights against the fear. And it never hides or runs away. The writer creates the relationship and plays with the fear. She waits, approaches, and becomes one in the end. There may not be the story which handles the nightmare in such a silent and smooth way. This is the book I want to read before going to bed right by my side.
It is very common that children have nightmares while asleep, because their fear, worries, anxieties are expressed in their dream. They sometimes are chased by somebody or meet scary monsters, or suddenly get under dangerous circumstances. Having a nightmare is quite a natural process while growing up. The picture book, ‘With the Moon and the Dream’, shows how children accept nightmares in a fresh way. The child doesn’t fight against his dream represented by characters, instead, he slowly builds the relationship with his dream. By treating bad dreams as a friend, not as an enemy, children will be able to learn how to face with fearsome feelings in a smooth way.
