(English) Who Comes?

A child, a kitten, a fox and a raccoon are all waiting for somebody while sitting together. The child’s eyes were full of expectation and the kitten next to the child is quietly looking at the child. These young living creatures are definitely friends. No one knows who they will meet, but perhaps, that person would be a welcoming guest. Knock, knock. When young animals knock on the door, the mysterious, warm, and simple magic begins –an open heart that makes anyone as friends, the belief that somebody will help me when I ask for, and the courtesy returning for given help. For young children and young animals, these are just natural. However, adult readers might feel that they have lost these precious things. This book contains three fairy tales to make readers realized. With simple lines and beautiful colors, the illustrator, Kim Hye Won, expressed her affection toward living creatures. As a delicate observer, she represented lovely encounters with these young animals through watercolor paintings. 

How happy are we if a baby fox calls us, if we get invited by kitten school while waiting for a friend at the playground, and if a hungry baby raccoon visits us? Perhaps, what these lovely characters are waiting for is you who open the cover of this book. 

어린이와 아기 고양이와 여우와 너구리가 나란히 앉아 누군가를 기다린다. 돌아보는 어린이의 눈에 기대감이 빛나고, 꼭 붙어 앉은 고양이는 그런 어린이를 가만 바라본다. 올망졸망 앉은 어린 생명들은 친구인 게 틀림없다. 누구를 만나게 될지는 알 수 없지만, 아마도 반가운 손님일 것이다. 그렇게 즐겁게 기대할 수 있는 이유는, 이 책을 쓴 사람이 ‘이반디’ 작가이기 때문이다.

『누가 올까?』는 어린이의 마음을 오롯이 담은 유년 동화로 제2회 권태응 문학상을 받은 이반디 작가가 3년 만에 발표하는 동화집이다. 똑똑, 어린 동물들이 찾아와 문을 두드린 순간, 신비하기도 하고 따뜻하기도 한 소박한 마법이 시작된다. 누구와도 친구가 될 수 있는 열린 마음, 도움을 청하면 누군가 반드시 도와 줄 거라는 믿음, 받은 마음에 정성을 다해 보답하는 예의. 어린 사람과 어린 동물이 당연한 듯 해내지만, 어른들은 점차 잃어버린 소중한 것들이 세 편의 동화에 오롯이 담겨 있다. 단순한 선과 고운 색감으로 생명에 대한 애정을 보여 준 그림책 『고양이』의 김혜원 화가가 섬세한 관찰자가 되어, 어린 동물들과의 사랑스러운 만남을 고운 수채화에 담았다.

어린 여우한테서 전화가 걸려오고, 놀이터에서 친구를 기다리다 고양이 학교에 초대받고, 배고픈 아기 너구리가 찾아오는 마법 같은 순간이 찾아온다면 얼마나 좋을까? 어쩌면 이 사랑스러운 주인공들이 기다리는 것은 『누가 올까?』의 책장을 펼칠 당신일지도 모른다.
