This is the second book by novelist Kim Yi-seol, whose career began when she was awarded for Best Short Story for Thirteen-Years-Old at the annual Seoul Shinmun spring literary contest in 2006. It features nine short stories including Obituary, which won the 3rd Young Writer Award, and Empty House, which received the excellent prize at the 2016 Yi Sang Literary Awards.

In this collection, Kim proposes the heavy question of how one perseveres in a world without prospects and whether such a life is worth living. The title, As Silent as Today, paradoxically reflects the entire spectrum of short stories while at the same time acting as a beacon of small hope for those who have learned that a better tomorrow will never come.
